Volunteering Programs in Nepal

                           Volunteering in Nepal

Teaching monks in Nepal is part of our Monastery Volunteer in Nepal. You'll be teaching English, sports, and computer skills to a group of young monk students from different backgrounds. The monks that live in the monastery are Buddhist monks from Buddhist families. The children are frequently from impoverished homes in Nepal's hilly regions. The monastery provides lodging, nourishment, and education to the young monks. Young monks also learn and study Buddhism while at the monastery, as well as execute numerous rites.

Many monks want to learn English as part of their education, but few monasteries have the resources to hire qualified English teachers. These monk children receive only a few hours of English instruction every day from government teachers, the majority of whom are unprepared to teach the subject, and as a result, virtually little progress occurs. As a result, professional English-speaking volunteers are desperately needed to teach children the fundamentals of the language and instill in them the much-needed confidence that comes with a greater awareness of the outside world. This project is as near as two worlds can get to colliding, and you can expect to learn a few things from these fascinating individuals during the course of the programme.

Although monks spend the majority of their days in ceremonial practise and devotion, you will have the opportunity to deliver your own programme of teaching activities during their two-hour lunch break, which can be extended up to six hours depending on the demand. Monks often range in age from 5 to 18 years old. However, older monks in their 20s and beyond occasionally attend the classes as well. The monks are grateful for this break from their daily routine and are eager to learn from and about you! We want you to devise engaging, creative, and enjoyable teaching activities that will allow students to learn from you while also offering you a glimpse into the monastery's everyday operations.

Please be aware that there are relatively limited teaching resources available (only basic classrooms with a blackboard), so please keep that in mind. Fundamental speaking, reading, and writing English, as well as some basic grammar lessons, will be covered in class. We prefer students who have finished a TEFL course to be prepared to work in such a setting, but anyone interested in becoming a teacher or who has decent English abilities should apply.
